The Green Building movement spreading across the nation with thoroughness unmatched by other fads is here to stay.  The foundation of green building is based on a common sense logic that naturally resists dispute.  Just as we all understand and agree in the principals of hard work and industry, conserving energy and conscientiously preserving our resources cannot be argued.

Bridgewater Innovative Builders, Inc. of Whitefish, MT embraces these ideas through their work in residential construction.  Their current 2,650 square foot home completed in May 2009 will use 60% less energy than a similar house of the same size and location.  The house is expected to spend no more than $350 to heat and cool the building for the entire year.  This has been accomplished by careful insulation and air sealing of the building combined with a geothermal heat pump, the workhorse of the home, and a variety of other high performance features.   Energy efficient features include blown insulation in the walls with rigid insulation applied to the interior, R-40 SIPS panels in the ceiling, and high efficiency windows.  Bridgewater Innovative Builders uses R-10 rigid foam insulation under the slab combined with R-24 ICF concrete form walls.  Advanced framing techniques are incorporated to use less lumber and provide more space for insulation in the wall cavities, laborious air sealing procedures ensure minimal air leakage, and when these features are combined with the unique hybrid timber frame, the result is unmatched. 
      
None of the technologies or materials used in this home is new or novel in nature; conversely, they have been in the marketplace for years.  It is only implementing these readily available products in a way that acts synergistically together, that is novel.
